Telos Alliance, a renowned name in broadcast audio for over three decades, recently unveiled the 25-Seven PDMX Program Delay Manager.
This software, an update to the 25-Seven PDM II, joins the esteemed PDM product line, which has been a go-to for major broadcasters globally for more than 15 years to ensure their live content remains free of unsuitable material.
Introduction of PDMX
The PDMX Program Delay Manager is a modern software solution designed to offer broadcasters a reliable way to manage live audio content. It operates as a container that can be installed on a commercial off-the-shelf server, utilized via cloud services like AWS, or run on the Telos Alliance AP-3000 hardware platform.
Features and Flexibility
Geoff Steadman, the Product Manager for Omnia and 25-Seven, emphasized that PDMX represents a significant advancement in program delay technology. It successfully transitions the functionality of previous PDM hardware models into a format suitable for AoIP (Audio over IP) and virtual deployments. This innovation aligns with the evolving needs of broadcasters seeking flexible and efficient content management solutions.
PDMX offers a maximum of 99 seconds of stereo audio delay, along with a customizable “dump” feature that eliminates a specified amount of audio at the user’s discretion. An alternative feature, Overkill™, allows for the playing of a show-specific audio file over the dump buffer, maintaining the broadcast’s continuity. Building and exiting delays is made versatile with options for pre-rolling, time expansion, and audio file playback, as well as time compression or the use of a Cough button for buffer management.
Advanced Monitoring and Synchronization
The PD-Alert™ system is a patented feature within PDMX that enhances monitoring capabilities. Whenever the Dump button is activated, it automatically sends an email containing two archived, time-stamped audio files—one of the on-air broadcast and one off-air—to designated station personnel. This ensures accountability and provides a quick response mechanism to manage content effectively.
Additionally, PDMX is engineered to maintain smooth, artifact-free audio output, even with stereo music, through its sophisticated algorithms. It also incorporates data delay features to keep metadata, PAD “now playing” data, and Livewire GPIO closures synchronized with the audio stream, ensuring a cohesive and uninterrupted listener experience.
Availability
Starting April 15, 2024, the 25-Seven PDMX Program Delay Manager will be accessible through the global network of Telos and Axia partners. This launch marks a pivotal moment for broadcasters seeking advanced, reliable solutions for live content management.
