Harmonic has announced that the Germany-based media production company, 44p, is upgrading its UHD playout, media processing, and distribution capabilities using Harmonic’s XOS Advanced Media Processor.
This processor features a cloud-native software foundation, comprehensive playout features, and next-generation media processing, enabling 44p to deliver UHD broadcasts more efficiently.
Need for Reliable Media Processing
Mido Fayad, Chief Technology Officer at 44p, stated that their company, which provides media production services including live sports and entertainment, required a dependable and efficient media processing solution. Harmonic’s XOS media processor, with its unified and fully redundant end-to-end software solution, meets all aspects of their media processing needs.
Deployment and Customization
The deployment was facilitated by netorium, a German broadcast system integrator. Frank Herrmann, CEO at netorium, explained that 44p needed a media processing solution to future-proof and optimize their broadcast workflow. Leveraging their partnership with Harmonic, netorium developed a customized solution that precisely matched 44p’s requirements.
Features and Benefits of XOS Media Processor
Harmonic’s software-based XOS Advanced Media Processor supports 44p’s playout, encoding, and SRT distribution needs. This software enhances broadcast delivery through AI-powered video compression and quality optimization for both HD and UHD channels. It also offers audio loudness management, simplified cue tone processing, and flexible support for IP transport architectures. Additionally, the XOS media processor provides a complete playout-to-delivery feature set, including advanced branding with HTML-5 graphics and effects.
Impact on 44p’s Broadcast Quality
Stéphane Cloirec, Vice President of Video Appliances and Software Product Management at Harmonic, noted that adopting the XOS Advanced Media Processor improves efficiency and video quality for 44p. By integrating advanced playout, AI video compression, and one-to-many distribution into a single media processing solution, 44p can deliver superior UHD quality with cost efficiency.
