Sound Devices has released the 8-Series v10.0 firmware update. This free, user-driven update includes 32-bit float recording, enhanced functionality, and more flexible audio routing options.

This can be used with the Scene, Take, and Notes ‘Follow stop’ toggle switch actions to quickly edit the metadata of the displayed take, whether it is the next or current take.
- Fahrenheit Display for Battery Temperature: The firmware now includes the option to display Smart Battery temperature data in Fahrenheit.
Detailed Improvements
The new firmware introduces the ability to record ISO tracks in 32-bit floating point, eliminating clipping in the file regardless of the gain setting. This is a significant enhancement for Sound Devices’ flagship mixer/recorder series.
Daylight Mode
The Daylight Mode includes a brighter LCD color scheme, making it easier to see important information and navigate menus, even in direct sunlight.
Record Folder Renaming
With the v10.01 upgrade, record folders can be quickly renamed without the need for a computer, directly from the 8-Series Record Folder Options menu.
Playback Audio Options
Users can choose whether playback audio is routed to all outputs or just headphones, while live audio passes through to other outputs. This is beneficial for production crews, allowing them to continue hearing live audio without interruption while the sound mixer checks playback of takes.
SD-Remote Routing Matrix
The v10.01 upgrade for SD-Remote, the companion app to 8-Series mixer-recorders, now features a new Routing Matrix tab. This tab provides an overview of all input, channel, bus, and output routing on a single screen, simplifying the management of audio signals. This is an indispensable tool for production sound mixers.
