Al Thaqafeyah Secures Exclusive MENA Broadcasting Rights for the 96th Oscars

Al Thaqafeyah, the leading Saudi cultural channel, has obtained the exclusive rights to broadcast the 96th Oscars in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

This event, organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood this March, aiming to recognize the excellence in filmmaking from the year 2023 across various categories such as acting, music, production design, and directing.

Live Broadcast Details

The ceremony will be aired live on Al Thaqafeyah on Sunday, 10 March, starting at 11:30 pm KSA time. Jimmy Kimmel, a well-known television host and comedian from the United States, will be hosting the Oscars for the fourth time. The event’s production team includes Raj Kapoor, Molly McNearney, and Katy Mullan.

Leading Nominations

This year, ‘Oppenheimer’ leads with 13 nominations, including for Best Picture and Directing by Christopher Nolan, along with three acting nominations. ‘Poor Things’ follows with 11 nominations, and ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ has received 10 nominations. Other films competing in the Best Picture category include ‘American Fiction’, ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, ‘Barbie’, ‘The Holdovers’, ‘Maestro’, ‘Past Lives’, and ‘The Zone of Interest’.

Milestones and Records

The awards ceremony will feature several significant milestones. Lily Gladstone has become the first Indigenous American actress to receive a nomination for an Academy Award for her role in ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’. Martin Scorsese, at 81, has received his tenth nomination for Directing. Composer John Williams breaks his own record with his 54th nomination at the age of 91. This year also celebrates the first nominations for ten actors, including Emily Blunt, Danielle Brooks, and Jeffrey Wright, and marks the first time three female directors have had their films nominated for Best Picture in the same year.
