Radio Alive is a community radio station located in Baulkham Hills, serving the Hills District and parts of Greater Western Sydney.

Established in 1992, it has been consistently broadcasting on 90.5 MHz FM and through its website. The station’s programming mainly features contemporary music and community information, including sections dedicated to public assistance.

Partnership with AEQ Technology

Radio Alive 90.5FM has a longstanding relationship with AEQ technology, having equipped its main broadcast studio with an AEQ CAPITOL IP digital console. Recently, the station has further invested in AEQ technology by acquiring an outdoor work kit from Broadcast Components, AEQ’s local partner. The kit’s central component is the AEQ ALIO audio codec.

New Outdoor Broadcast Capabilities

The new outdoor kit enables Radio Alive to bring its programming directly to the community. It allows the station to conduct broadcasts from various locations, such as parks, hotels, and restaurants, maintaining professional audio quality without significant investment in communication lines.

AEQ ALIO Audio Codec Features

The AEQ ALIO is a portable IP audiocodec with dual stereo channels, initially designed for sports broadcasts but versatile enough for various scenarios, including music events. Its compact and durable design makes it ideal for outdoor use, capable of withstanding pressure, shock, and exposure to liquids.

Connectivity and Control

The AEQ ALIO can connect to most base equipment from different manufacturers via the SIP communication protocol, adhering to EBU standard N ACIP Tech 3326. When connected to another AEQ codec, it offers additional tools for communication and control. The AEQ ControlPhoenix Audiocodec Management Software provides comprehensive control over the unit and its functions.

Implementation and Training

Chantelle from Broadcast Components oversaw the system’s commissioning and provided training for the Radio Alive staff. The equipment has already been successfully used at various events, including Run for the Hill, Mateship Fair, and Hills Winter Sleep Out.

By adopting the AEQ ALIO audio codec, Radio Alive continues to enhance its ability to engage with the community, delivering high-quality broadcasts from diverse locations.
