NG Media, a broadcaster serving the remote Ngaanyatjarra Lands in Australia, has upgraded its technology to improve content sharing and communication among its communities.
Covering a vast area of 250,000 square kilometers, NG Media focuses on cultural and community-based information tailored to the traditional inhabitants of this region. The recent technology upgrade now enables these communities to share their stories and news more effectively.
Collaboration with Broadcast Components and AEQ
To achieve this upgrade, NG Media collaborated with Broadcast Components, AEQ’s local Australian partner. AEQ’s digital radio technology was chosen for its ease of installation and straightforward remote access, which is crucial for technicians and crew members operating in such remote locations. The new technology allows the stations to share high-quality content between different sites seamlessly.
Installation of AEQ FORUM LITE Digital Consoles
For the central system, the AEQ FORUM LITE digital console was selected for its flexibility and durability. This console, configurable with 4 to 12 faders, was installed in the six new studios set up by NG Media. The main studio in Wingellina (Irrunytju) is equipped with a 12-fader console, while the other five Remote Indigenous Broadcasting Service (RIBS) studios each have 8-fader consoles. This setup not only meets current operational needs but also allows for future expansions if required.
Features of AEQ FORUM IP SPLIT Console
The AEQ FORUM IP SPLIT console, designed for ONAIR broadcast control, includes essential features such as automatic monitor cut, cough cut, faderstart, signaling control, and external communications management. Its modular design and compact size make it adaptable to various configurations, from self-monitoring and television production to integration in larger installations. The console also supports advanced connectivity options, including AoIP multi-channel input and output cards compatible with the AES67 protocol via DANTE™ technology, enabling integration with equipment from over 300 manufacturers.
Turnkey Project Management and Installation
Broadcast Components managed the installation of cabling, electrical work, and ancillary equipment, including microphones, loudspeakers, processors, and ONAIR indicators, in an ambitious turnkey project. To enhance security and ensure continuity of transmission, equipment racks have been relocated from the studios to a separate, controlled-access room.
On-site Coordination and Training
Australian engineer Ben Pridmore supervised the installation, commissioning, and on-site training. He also provided the necessary remote support to ensure the successful implementation of the new systems.
This project has significantly improved NG Media’s ability to connect and serve the remote communities of the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, enhancing the quality and reach of its radio broadcasts.
