AEQ has expanded its SmarTalk service to include a home application, enabling high-quality broadcasts directly from any smartphone.
This new application allows sports commentators and reporters to use professional microphones with their phones, establishing reliable communication with the station’s audiocodec for broadcasting events, sending reports, or conducting interviews.
Web-Based SmarTalk Application
The traditional web-based SmarTalk application generates links that can be sent via email, WhatsApp, QR code, or other means. When a guest clicks on the link, the application sends an Opus audiocodec to connect to the station’s AEQ Phoenix audiocodec.
Home SmarTalk App for Smartphones
The new resident SmarTalk application, available for free download from Google Play or Apple Store, installs directly on the smartphone. Both versions of the application enable an audio link between the device’s microphone and speaker or headset and the station’s audiocodec without additional setup. However, the home SmarTalk app offers full control over the smartphone, ensuring compatibility with professional microphones and headsets, making it ideal for regular use by sports reporters and commentators.
Easy and Flexible Connectivity
The application eliminates the need for an audiocodec or technical assistance. Users can connect from any location with internet connectivity. The process is straightforward: the participant clicks on the link, sees a welcome screen, clicks again, and is immediately active on air. This functionality removes the need for mobile units or guest travel, as they can connect using their smartphones.
Subscription and Licensing
Any AEQ Phoenix audiocodec user can subscribe to the SmarTalk service on a trial basis. After the trial period, users can purchase an annual renewable license based on the number of studio audiocodecs they wish to enable for the service. Subscribers can use the service as needed, downloading the application or submitting web connection links multiple times during the subscription period for the licensed Phoenix audiocodecs.
Managing Remote Users
When a license is activated, the web application is enabled, allowing SmarTalk users to create “Guests” or remote terminal users who can connect using either resident or temporary web-based applications via links. Once remote users call in, they can be assigned an audiocodec channel and put on the air. An administrator window is also available for adding or modifying stations, audiocodecs, and other users.
Advanced Features for Phoenix Audiocodec Users
For users of the latest generation AEQ Phoenix audiocodec (Venus 4), channels can be individually preset to SmarTalk, allowing a studio audiocodec to work dynamically with SmarTalk or other portable audiocodecs. On other Phoenix audiocodecs, channels can be manually assigned to the service.
High-Quality Audio and Reliable Infrastructure
SmarTalk utilizes the high-quality Opus encoding of AEQ Phoenix audiocodecs, offering modes that allow the use of a remote PC connected to a sound outlet, even for broadcasting music events. The service boasts a redundant and distributed infrastructure across multiple cloud servers in different regions, ensuring each audiocodec connects to a nearby cloud infrastructure for high availability and low delay.
