AJA has launched version 2.1 of its ColorBox software, which is available at no additional cost. This update introduces several key features aimed at improving the workflow for professionals in the media industry.
Among these are the ability to down-convert 4K/UltraHD outputs to a lower resolution via SDI and HDMI, and a cropping feature for the HDMI output, which allows for center-cropping from 4K to UltraHD or 2K to HD. This ensures that images remain unscaled and compatible with a wide array of consumer displays.
Advancements in Color Management and Compatibility
The software now includes a new ACES Pipeline, enhancing the device’s capabilities with an ACES Metadata File (AMF) support. This feature consolidates important color management data into a single XML file, streamlining color interoperability throughout the production process. Additionally, the update provides compatibility with ARRI Wireless Video Optimize (WVO) LogC4, which addresses issues introduced by wireless transmission systems used with ARRI Alexa 35 cameras and LogC4 footage. This inclusion simplifies the use of LogC4 with existing equipment, saving both time and resources.
Enhancements for HDR and SDR Displays
The update further introduces an SDR Preview feature in Colorfront Live Mode, which allows users to preview what HDR content would look like if converted to SDR, without needing to alter the HDR monitor settings. This feature is designed to save time and streamline workflows. The update also integrates the latest BBC HLG LUTs v1.7, ensuring support for the most current BBC HLG transforms.
Pricing and Availability
The ColorBox v2.1 update is currently on display at the AJA NAB Booth (SL3065) and is available for download from the AJA Support Page. The ColorBox hardware is sold through AJA’s global reseller network at a base price of $1,995 USD. Additional licenses for Colorfront, the ORION-CONVERT pipeline, and the BBC HLG LUT pipeline are available at $995, $695, and $145 USD respectively.
