AJA Video Systems announces a significant update to its HDR Image Analyzer 12G, enhancing HDR monitoring, analysis, and quality control.
AJA Video Systems has rolled out the v3.0 software update for its HDR Image Analyzer 12G, a state-of-the-art device for real-time SDR, HDR, and WCG (Wide Color Gamut) monitoring and analysis. Developed collaboratively with Colorfront, the device merges AJA’s advanced I/O technology with Colorfront’s innovative image analysis software, all within a compact 1RU chassis. The Image Analyzer 12G supports a variety of content monitoring tools up to 8K via 12G-SDI and up to 4K via NDI.
New features
The v3.0 update, released on September 6, 2023, introduces a suite of new features aimed at enhancing HDR monitoring, analysis, and quality control in multi-camera shows and post-production suites. This free update expands the device’s capabilities, allowing for simultaneous analysis of multiple video channels, integration of new Dolby Vision tools, additional connectivity options, extended 8K/UHD2 format support, and incorporation of the latest ARRI LogC4 color science.
Side-by-side analysis
In today’s rapidly evolving production landscape, where multi-camera setups are increasingly common in concerts, live events, theater, and sports, the ability to conduct side-by-side analysis of multiple signals in real time has become crucial. The HDR Image Analyzer 12G v3.0 addresses this need, supporting up to four separate channels of signal analysis—up to 4x 4K/UHD. Each quadrant of the user interface can be configured individually to display an analysis tool for any of the four channels, or users can opt for a four-channel view, showcasing the image, waveform, vectorscope, and audio metering for each channel.
Dolby Vision dynamic metadata inspection and presentation
A major highlight of the v3.0 update is the introduction of Dolby Vision dynamic metadata inspection and presentation, with support for Dolby Vision v4.0 and v2.9 via SDI, automatically detected. This feature enhances the ability to view Dolby Vision metadata in various formats, providing a more comprehensive and real-time understanding of the content’s color and quality.
Full NDI 4K/UHD/2K/HD reception
The update also enhances connectivity, introducing the ability to receive Full NDI 4K/UHD/2K/HD source signals over an Ethernet connection, and analyze them using the HDR Image Analyzer 12G’s toolset, without the need for external conversion technology. This streamlines the workflow, saving space, power, and costs.
Support for additional camera log profiles and more 8K formats has also been added, including new native support for ARRI LogC4 color space analysis and quadlink two-sample interleaving (2SI) 8K/UHD2 transport, catering to a wider range of production needs.
Nick Rashby, President of AJA, emphasized the company’s commitment to evolving with the industry, stating that the HDR Image Analyzer 12G v3.0 is designed to meet modern production demands, offering increased signal analysis capacity, new Dolby Vision SDI metadata inspection and analysis, NDI connectivity, and numerous other enhancements based on user feedback.
