Amagi, a leader in cloud-based SaaS technology for broadcast and connected TV (CTV), has released its 12th Amagi Global FAST Report.

The report highlights the significant impact FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channels have on TV networks and direct-to-consumer (D2C) streamers.

Key Findings

The report indicates that broadcaster-owned channels in FAST are expanding, with TV networks accounting for 30% of the top 100 FAST channels and driving a 40% share in total Hours of Viewing (HOV) across these channels. Amagi’s insights show double-digit growth in global HOV (31%) and ad impressions (26%) during the comparison period of Q2 2024 versus Q2 2023.

He noted that TV networks’ substantial presence in the top channels and viewing hours demonstrates FAST’s potential for generating additional revenue for traditional media companies. Consumer Behavior and Market Trends

The report incorporates data from over 50 FAST services and 5,000-plus channels using Amagi’s Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI) platform, Amagi THUNDERSTORM. The 2024 Amagi Consumer Survey, conducted between April and June, reflects the preferences of nearly 500 U.S. households across various income brackets. Key takeaways include:

  • Consumer Comfort with FAST Offerings: 75% of survey respondents would create a free profile on a streaming service to sample FAST channels, and more than half would enter their credit card information.
  • Global Growth Metrics: FAST channels continue to see double-digit growth in global HOV (31%) and ad impressions (26%).
  • Broadcaster-Owned Channels: The number of broadcaster-owned channels within FAST has increased by approximately 2.5 times.
  • FAST Channels in O&O Apps: The number of FAST channels within O&O (owned and operated) apps has increased by nearly 50%.
  • Significance of Single IP Channels: More than 25% of entertainment channels are Single IP channels, driving over 33% of HOV within the genre.
