Ancient Optics Releases Innovative Multi-Format Zoom Lens Based on Canon FD Design

0

Ancient Optics has recently launched a groundbreaking Multi-Format Zoom lens, an innovation based on the classic Canon FD 35-105 f3.5 full-frame lens.

This new product stands out for its versatility, allowing users to modify the lens for different formats easily.

Transformative Design and Functionality
The key feature of this lens is its ability to transform from a Canon FD 35-105 f3.5 to a Canon FD 24-75 f2.6, suitable for S35 sensor coverage. This transformation is facilitated by changing the focus, zoom, and iris scales, and incorporating an LPL hard mount with an in-built focal reducer. Remarkably, this adjustment is simple and can be done with just a screwdriver in about 10 minutes.

Unique Iris Characteristics
The FD 35-105 f3.5 is distinguished by its unique iris design, which maintains a constant aperture throughout the zoom range. Ancient Optics has preserved the original 5-blade iris in this lens, not only for its functional benefits but also for the distinct pentagon-shaped bokeh it produces.

Ideal for Vintage Lens Enthusiasts
This lens is highly recommended for those seeking a vintage mid-range zoom lens, particularly complementing full-frame prime lenses from the 1970s. It’s a blend of retro charm and modern functionality.

Optical Quality and Enhancements
Optically, the lens is noted for its sharp center and gradual softness towards the edges. The Canon S.S.C. coatings on the lens contribute to creating unique gold and blue lens flares. Additionally, the close focus capability has been significantly improved, reduced from 4 feet 6 inches to 2 feet 9 inches, enhancing its versatility for various shooting conditions.
