The Associated Press (AP), the world’s leading news agency, has transitioned its global video editing operations to DaVinci Resolve Studio.
The deployment includes several hundred licenses, supporting AP’s continuous 24/7 news operations and enabling the creation of more than 1,500 video projects daily.
Live Video Editing
Growing Transport Stream Editing allows AP journalists to start editing live incoming video feeds directly from the agency’s media asset management (MAM) system without waiting for complete file transfers. This capability ensures that footage can be cut and distributed within seconds of arrival.
Cloud Graphics and Presets
AP now uses DaVinci Resolve Studio’s cloud-based system for graphics templates, project settings, and export settings. This eliminates manual downloads and ensures that branding and production standards are maintained consistently across all AP locations.
Scalable Cloud Rendering
Integration with AP’s MAM enables scalable cloud rendering. By distributing project rendering to cloud-based nodes, AP can automatically increase capacity during major news events and reduce it when demand decreases. This approach reduces reliance on local workstations and optimizes infrastructure costs, allowing journalists and editors to focus on creative tasks.
License Management
Software management has been simplified with Blackmagic Cloud. Single sign-on allows AP to monitor, assign, and redistribute DaVinci Resolve Studio licenses across its global team efficiently.
Staff Training
The transition included a comprehensive training program for AP journalists and field staff, focusing on storytelling rather than technical editing. AP super users collaborated with DaVinci Resolve Certified Trainers to create an internal video-on-demand library. This allows staff to learn at their own pace and ensures sustainable knowledge transfer within the organization.
