Appear is set to announce two new initiatives at IBC2024.The first initiative is the launch of a flexible and open software platform designed to provide high-performance media processing for live production.
Expansion of Solution Ecosystem
The second initiative is the development of a solution ecosystem. This ecosystem combines Appear’s capabilities with other industry-leading solutions to offer comprehensive and adaptable workflows for media organizations.
CEO Statement on Innovation
Thomas Bostrøm Jørgensen, CEO of Appear, emphasized the importance of these new initiatives. He noted that 2024 marks the most innovative year in Appear’s 20-year history. The company’s new software platform is designed to offer media organizations the highest levels of quality and robustness, whether they use hardware, on-premise software, or cloud solutions. Additionally, the new solution proposition aims to provide greater technical, operational, and commercial flexibility.
Enhancements to the X Platform
Alongside these new initiatives, Appear will introduce several new features for its award-winning X Platform:
100G IP Gateway Switch: This newly launched module drives cost efficiencies and sustainability by increasing density and media flow throughput.
Reduced Latency for Temporal Compression: Appear has further optimized the latency of the AVC and HEVC functions of the X Platform, delivering end-to-end contribution below 100ms.
JPEG XS: The new double-density JPEG XS module supports 8 full HD channels per module, allowing up to 96 JPEG XS full HD channels within a single 2RU chassis.
New Compression Module: The HEVC/AVC X Platform module offers increased processing performance, combining encoding and decoding, with support for Dolby Atmos and HDR/SDR Conversion.
CTO on the Future of Live Production
Andy Rayner, CTO of Appear, discussed the evolution of live production technology. He highlighted the shift from private circuit connectivity to more accessible ISP infrastructure, made possible by Appear’s 2023 launch of hardware-accelerated SRT delivery. Rayner also introduced Appear’s new live production software platform and solutions portfolio, which he believes will shape the future of live production workflows.
