Appear, a leading company in live production technology, will showcase its cutting-edge technologies for content contribution, remote production, and distribution at the 2024 NAB Show.
These technologies are at the forefront in terms of HEVC, JPEG XS, SRT, and IP Trust Boundary execution. In addition, Appear’s Chief Technology Officer, Andy Rayner, will present a keynote titled “Navigating Security in the Live Distributed Production Landscape” and participate in various panel discussions on sustainability, latency, and new technologies in the field of live production.
Business and Technological Growth
According to Thomas Bostrøm Jørgensen, Appear’s CEO, the company has experienced significant growth in both business and technology over the last year. Appear’s innovative approach, particularly its hardware-accelerated SRT technology alongside its performance in HEVC and JPEG XS, has established it as a leader in live production technology. The company’s commitment to efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability has played a crucial role in its success.
Innovations in Distribution and Contribution
At the NAB Show, Appear will demonstrate how its accelerated SRT solution has enabled a major media group in Brazil to consolidate its playout facilities significantly, reducing the number from thirteen to just one. This advancement represents substantial savings in infrastructure costs, along with reduced operational expenses by switching from satellite and leased circuits to secure and robust internet connectivity.
For content contribution, Appear is set to introduce a new JPEG XS module capable of delivering eight full HD channels per module, totaling up to 96 JPEG XS full HD channels in a single 2RU chassis. The company will also spotlight the exceptional HEVC capabilities of its X Platform, which can handle 96 full HD HEVC feeds from a 2RU chassis. Additionally, Appear plans to unveil a 100Gb IP Gateway switch module aimed at increasing live video and media density through the X Platform and enhancing internal throughput.
Enhanced Analytics and Monitoring
At the NAB Show, Appear will feature its enhanced analytics and monitoring capabilities within its Network Operations Centre (NOC) hub. The demonstrations will include how Appear’s solutions can provide confidence in operations through secure workflows, network, and infrastructure monitoring, along with simplified management and advanced analytics dashboards. The NOC hub will showcase new integrations with Grafana Labs for real-time observability, the open-source monitoring tool Prometheus, and Skyline’s Dataminer, a popular solution in media and entertainment networks.
SRT Protocol and Future Directions
Andy Rayner, CTO of Appear, noted that after launching professional-grade SRT at the NAB Show 2023, the company will now showcase why SRT has become the preferred protocol for content contribution and primary distribution. Appear’s hardware-accelerated SRT solution offers significant capital and operational expenditure benefits, positioning the company as the leading provider of high-capacity SRT solutions. This technology is vital for scalable internet contribution and distribution, aligning with the industry’s move towards a software-based hybrid-cloud future.
Andy Rayner’s Speaking Engagements at NAB Show
Rayner’s appearances at the NAB Show include a keynote on security in live distributed production and participation in panels on collaborative supply chains, the significance of real-time in broadcasting, and other topics related to the media technology industry. These sessions will take place across different dates and times during the event, providing insights into the evolving landscape of live production technology.
