Design and Features

Available in two models, the L5-C Plus and L7-C Plus, these fixtures come in both blue-silver and black colors, offering options for different yoke types. Despite their enhanced output, the L5 and L7 maintain the compact size and weight of the original series. The L-Series Plus benefits from features like adjustable focus from spot to flood, a uniform light field, and comprehensive control over color and intensity. Additionally, the fixtures are designed for precise control using barndoors and flags, essential for creative lighting design.

Technical Advancements

The L5-C Plus and L7-C Plus boast significant improvements in light output, achieving up to 90% more brightness while maintaining similar dimensions and weight to their predecessors. The average increase in output varies by model, beam angle, and color temperature, averaging around 60%. The L5-C Plus utilizes 135W of power and weighs 11.9 lbs, whereas the L7-C Plus requires 220W and weighs 19.2 lbs.

Enhanced Connectivity and User Interface

ARRI has also improved the series’ connectivity by integrating network data input and lighting control capabilities through ArtNet and Streaming ACN standards. This development simplifies workflows with the SkyPanel Classic’s familiar onboard control and user interface. The light output is calibrated for optimal performance with broadcast and digital cinema cameras, promising attractive skin tones and vibrant colors. Despite the advancements, the CRI and TLCI ratings for both fixtures are noted to be on the lower end.

Durability and Usability

Designed with robustness and ergonomics in mind, the L-Series Plus fixtures are suited for a variety of applications, including movie and television production, live entertainment, photography, theater, and corporate events. A unique sliding stirrup feature ensures optimal balance, while silent operation is guaranteed through a combination of passive cooling and an encapsulated fan. Adjustments for brightness, color temperature, and green/magenta balance are easily made via dedicated knobs, with a focus knob providing smooth beam spread adjustments. Compatibility with existing L-Series accessories is maintained.

Pricing and Availability

The new L5-C Plus and L7-C Plus models are slated for release in June 2024, available in blue and silver or all-black colorways, with manual or PO yoke options. With the launch of the L-Series Plus, the existing L-Series models will be phased out. Pricing details have yet to be announced. Despite the anticipated success of the new fixtures, they are expected to face significant competition in the LED Fresnel market.
