OpenDrives has introduced Atlas 2.8, the first composable software-defined storage solution designed specifically for the media and entertainment (M&E) industry.

This new release offers a high-performance, enterprise storage software platform that is configurable according to creative workflow requirements, regardless of storage capacity limitations.

A Shift from Traditional Storage Pricing

Atlas 2.8 marks a significant departure from the traditional industry practice of pricing storage based on capacity. According to Trevor Morgan, VP of Product at OpenDrives, the aim is to remove the constraints imposed by conventional storage models. He highlighted that customers expressed a need for a storage solution that does not increase costs as their creative requirements and storage capacity grow. Atlas 2.8 addresses this need by providing a scalable solution without compromising performance, capabilities, or affordability.

Accessibility and Flexibility for All Media Organizations

Atlas 2.8 is designed to be accessible to media organizations of all sizes and budgets, ranging from boutique shops to satellite offices and large-scale enterprise operations. Morgan explained that the software now combines feature sets into larger ‘tiered’ bundles tailored for specific market segments. Additionally, OpenDrives offers smaller add-on feature packages that can be combined with standard bundles, or chosen a-la-carte for essential capabilities, providing ultimate flexibility without the need to upgrade to a more comprehensive and expensive tier.

Software Bundles and Availability

Customers can select from two prepackaged software bundles: Atlas Essentials and Atlas Comprehensive. Both bundles include advanced features such as proactive data prefetching, atomic writes with checksums, and snapshots. Transitioning between the bundles is straightforward and only requires a new license key. Future releases will introduce intermediary bundles with various combinations of pre-packaged functionalities.

Purchasing Options

Atlas Essentials, certified to run on specific Supermicro hardware platforms, can be purchased through select OpenDrives channel partners. Atlas Comprehensive is available through all OpenDrives partners, offering wide accessibility to this innovative storage solution.

With the launch of Atlas 2.8, OpenDrives provides a flexible, high-performance storage solution that caters to the dynamic needs of the media and entertainment industry, enabling content creators to scale their storage without escalating costs.
