Atlas Lens Co. has announced the expansion of its Orion Series with the introduction of three new anamorphic lenses: an 18mm T2, a 135mm T2.2, and a 200mm T2.2.
Among these, the 18mm lens stands out as the widest anamorphic lens available for production, establishing a new benchmark for ultra-wide-angle perspectives with its ability to focus as close as 18 inches (45.72cm). This lens boasts a 140-degree horizontal field of view, making it the anamorphic lens with the widest horizontal field of view for 35mm Cinemascope format motion picture cameras currently in production.
Specifications and Compatibility
The 18mm Orion Series lens is designed for 4-Perf film, delivering a 2.40:1 Cinemascope aspect ratio, and is fully compatible with the 16:9 Alexa LF Format mode. It can cover full-frame formats from edge to edge when used in conjunction with the Atlas 1.6x LF Extender and the Atlas 1.4x LF Extender.
The 135mm and 200mm lenses are noted for their ability to capture close-up shots from afar, with the 200mm lens being the Orion Series’ longest focal length option.
Comprehensive Lens Series
These new lenses augment the existing lineup, which includes focal lengths of 21mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 80mm, and 100mm. The Orion Series is celebrated for its authentic front-anamorphic design, providing a vintage look while accommodating image circles slightly larger than the Super 35 format.
Pricing and Availability
While Atlas Lens Co. has made a limited number of these lenses available for immediate purchase, subsequent orders are expected to be fulfilled within a timeframe of two to three months. Although specific pricing details have not been disclosed, it is anticipated that each of the three new lenses will likely be priced between $10,000 and $15,000 USD.
