Atomos Introduces Advanced Ninja Series

Atomos Introduces Advanced Ninja Series tkt1957.comAtomos has unveiled the newest additions to its acclaimed Ninja lineup of camera-attached monitor-recorders: the Ninja and Ninja Ultra.

A decade ago, the original Ninja made waves by merging an HD disk recorder with a handheld touchscreen monitor. This innovation allowed for direct, uncompressed video capture from the pioneering DSLRs onto a detachable SSD.

The updated Ninja model now supports video resolutions up to nine times greater, boasts a 5-inch HDR display, offers ProRes RAW recording, and is compatible with nearly every camera available. It’s no surprise that the term “Atomos” has become synonymous with filmmaking.

Both the Ninja and Ninja Ultra are powered by the revamped AtomOS 11 operating system. This OS not only offers a sleeker interface but also introduces features like EL Zone exposure-referenced colorized image, ARRI False Color, and advanced playback & recording tools.

The unique ‘camo’ design on the polycarbonate body of both models is hard to miss. They also come with an expanded range of standard codecs: 6K ProRes RAW, ProRes, DNxHD, and H.265, which was formerly an additional purchase.

While the Ninja is tailored for DSLR and mirrorless camera users, the Ninja Ultra is designed to maximize camera-to-cloud technology, integrating seamlessly with Atomos Connect. It can simultaneously record in ProRes RAW up to 4K 60p and HD 60p in H.265. It also offers automatic synchronization of filenames, timecode, and recording from brands like ARRI, Canon, and RED, with more camera integrations on the horizon.

The Ninja Ultra’s 4K camera-to-cloud feature allows for high-quality H.265 video recording and uploading at enhanced framerates. These H.265 files, being half the size of H.264, are perfect for immediate online sharing, sports coverage, or news reporting.

Exclusively for Ninja Ultra, the Atomos Connect module offers superior connection quality with Wi-Fi 6E, showcasing Atomos’ commitment to integrating the latest tech standards.

Both Ninja models maintain compatibility with their forerunners, Ninja V and Ninja V+, ensuring all Atomos and third-party accessories remain functional.

Trevor Elbourne, Atomos CEO, remarked, “Our commitment is to innovation and our customers. While the Ninja continues to be the preferred ProRes monitor-recorder for solo creators and freelancers, it now comes with added features. And for those not yet ready for cloud connectivity, it’s an option you can explore later as needed.”

The Ninja and Ninja Ultra are set to be available from September 2023, priced at $599/€599 and $799/€799 respectively, excluding local taxes.
