Atomos has announced the availability of its new product, the Ninja Phone, following positive feedback from NAB 2024 attendees.

The device is now shipping through authorized resellers and will be showcased at IBC2024.

The Ninja Phone is compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max from launch, with support for additional smartphones expected in the future. It incorporates a 10-bit Apple ProRes and 10-bit H.265 video co-processor, enabling users to record and monitor video from professional cameras with HDMI output. The device combines Atomos’ expertise in ProRes encoding with Apple’s latest silicon and screen technology to deliver a portable and connected professional HDR monitor-recorder.

Recording and Connectivity

The Ninja Phone allows ProRes-encoded video to be stored on the device as a .mov file and/or transcoded to 10-bit H.265 by the iPhone for efficient workflows such as camera-to-cloud or live streaming, utilizing the iPhone’s built-in 5G and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. The integration with Atomos Cloud Studio (ACS) provides users with additional streaming and live production capabilities.

App Integration and Accessory Support

The Ninja Phone app, available on the App Store, manages the operation of both the Ninja Phone and the iPhone, creating a seamless user experience. The device also features an integrated USB-C hub, allowing the connection of external accessories, such as wireless USB-C microphones, to ensure video and audio synchronization.

Market Availability and Pricing

According to Atomos CEO and Co-Founder Jeromy Young, the Ninja Phone targets video professionals seeking a cloud workflow without the need for complex technology. It also appeals to content creators using the iPhone 15 Pro who wish to integrate professional camera equipment into their workflow. The Ninja Phone is priced at USD/EUR 399, excluding local taxes, and is available now from authorized Atomos resellers.
