Atomos, known for their innovative technology solutions, recently unveiled Sun Dragon, a revolutionary LED lighting system.
This new product is touted as the world’s first LED strip to achieve near-perfect sunlight spectrum accuracy, with a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 99 and a Television Lighting Consistency Index (TCLI) of 98.
Technical Specifications
Sun Dragon is a 16-foot (5-meter) LED strip light offering extensive control and connectivity options, including wired DMX, Ethernet, RF, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The strip produces a bright output of 2000 lumens uniformly distributed across its length and consumes 80 watts of power. The RGBAW technology in Sun Dragon utilizes five distinct diode colors—red, green, blue, amber, and white—to produce a high-quality light output without the micro shadows typically associated with thinner LED strips.
Design and Usability
Unlike traditional rigid and bulky lighting systems, Sun Dragon features a flexible, malleable design allowing users to shape it into various forms. For users needing a more concentrated light source, the strip can be coiled to mimic a panel light. This adaptability extends to its mounting options, with metal mounts and magnetic removable diffusers included for different lighting needs. Additionally, the strip is lightweight, weighing just 1 kg (2.2 lbs), and boasts robust water and dust resistance, capable of functioning underwater up to a meter deep.
Control Features
The Sun Dragon includes an advanced control system featuring a large display. It supports both wired and wireless DMX controls and can be adjusted via Atomos AirGlu RF devices or Bluetooth-enabled apps on iPads and iPhones. It also integrates seamlessly with Atomos monitor-recorders and the Ninja Phone, enabling on-the-fly adjustments directly from these devices.
Pricing and Availability
Set to hit the market in June 2024, the Sun Dragon will be priced at approximately $999 USD/EUR. Demonstrations of the product will be available at the Atomos booth during NAB 2024.
