Avid has announced the release of the latest update to its video editing software, Media Composer.
The new version, Media Composer 2024.6, brings several notable improvements, including the introduction of a new Transcript Tool for PhraseFind, improved compatibility with Avid’s audio production software Pro Tools, and broader availability of Avid Huddle, the company’s cloud service for real-time collaborative editing sessions.
New Transcript Tool for PhraseFind
The new update enhances Avid PhraseFind with the addition of Avid Ada AI. The Transcript Tool allows editors to jump to specific moments in a clip based on spoken phrases, enabling direct editing from selections in the transcript into the timeline. This new capability aims to increase editing efficiency and precision.
Enhanced Integration with Pro Tools
Media Composer 2024.6 improves integration with Pro Tools, Avid’s leading audio software. The update now supports sub-frame automation for volume and pan, enhancing compatibility with Pro Tools and offering editors greater creative control. Pro Tools can now export Media Composer-compatible session files that retain essential metadata, reducing the need for frequent adjustments between users.
Expanded Availability of Avid Huddle
Avid Huddle, a tool for remote collaboration and content review, is now accessible for all versions of Media Composer and Avid | Edit On Demand. This feature allows editors to stream the audio and video output of Media Composer directly to collaborators via Microsoft Teams, enabling real-time reviews, time-stamped annotations, and discussions. Time-based text comments can be imported back into Media Composer as markers, streamlining the revision process.
Statement from Avid’s Chief Product Officer
Tim Claman, Avid’s Chief Product Officer, emphasized the importance of the new update: “Editors need tools that are deep, reliable, and powerful to fully realize their storytelling potential. With Media Composer 2024.6, we continue to lead the way in craft editorial and high-end post production. This update enhances Media Composer’s speech-to-text capabilities, remote collaboration features, and compatibility with Pro Tools, solidifying Media Composer as the top choice for demanding, high-profile projects.”
