On December 4-5, 2024, the Aviteng Technology Days broadcasting technology conference took place at the DoubleTree By Hilton Istanbul – Topkapi.
Organized by the Turkish system integrator Aviteng, this event marked the third installment of the annual series and attracted an even larger number of participants and exhibitors, highlighting the growing interest in new technologies for broadcasting and system integration.
Aviteng Technology Days 2024 showcased a wide range of technologies and solutions. This year, attendees had the opportunity to explore the latest innovations in audio and video technologies as well as content management systems.
Numerous companies presented their products, ranging from studio broadcasting equipment to solutions for internet-based content streaming.
VITEC: VITEC ChannelLink in the Spotlight
The VITEC ChannelLink intelligent IP stream distribution gateway enables organizations to deliver IP content anywhere, anytime, leveraging legacy baseband video matrices. Acting as a central hub, ChannelLink receives IP channels from live event locations and transmits them in real-time, serving as an efficient gateway within any IP network. It is ideal for stream management, routing, retransmission, or mirroring IPTV streams over wide-area networks (WAN) or the internet.
Broadcast Solutions from Evertz: VUE, SCORPION, sVIP, and BRAVO Studio
Evertz showcased its broadcast solutions, including VUE for remote operations, SCORPION for media data transport and processing, sVIP for multi-viewing and IP-based monitoring, and BRAVO Studio for flexible live production.
Slomo.TV: The New Arena Media Manager Product
Slomo.TV presented its new product, Arena Media Manager, to the event participants.
Arena Media Manager is a media content management system designed for sports arenas and concert venues. It enables efficient control of screens and other media surfaces across two main areas:
- The main venue and stands
- Auxiliary spaces (corridors, halls, restaurants, and suites).
The arena territory is covered by a local IPTV system called Arena TV. It easily integrates into the arena’s infrastructure through a local network or the internet and provides video broadcasts, advertisements, information updates, and interactive elements displayed on media surfaces (screens) throughout the venue.
What happens directly on the field is managed from the director’s booth. Here, the focus is on engaging the audience with the events taking place on the field, including replays, audience interaction, and the broadcasting of shows or games. Additionally, this location manages information boards, screens, video cubes, media perimeters, and more.
Improvements were also made to Slomo.TV’s video refereeing and replay systems.
Alexander Bashlykov, Software Development Manager at Slomo.TV:
“We have a video refereeing and replay system, and one of the challenges our clients faced was the need for individual configuration for various channels. Previously, such settings required the involvement of support engineers because they were complex, and the system had inherited features that users might not have been aware of.
To address this issue, we developed a project manager for our servers, implemented as a multilingual launcher. Depending on the model and its limitations (number of channels, functionality), we can create projects with a specified number of channels, the required format, and resolution. The system verifies port connections, defines where and what is being recorded, selects codecs, sets up additional recording options for editing, configures devices, and highlights potential errors. For example, if the same input is used on multiple channels—a common mistake during manual configuration—the system automatically flags this. Now, all settings can be made in one place, and the user can independently complete the configuration in just a few minutes, without needing our engineers’ assistance. The most important thing is that the user retains a unified node with assigned names for managing all projects.”
Haivision: What’s new in the SRT protocol?
The SRT protocol is a video streaming transport protocol characterized by low latency. SRT connects two endpoints for transmitting video and other media streams with low delay over IP networks, such as the public Internet.
It adapts to network conditions, compensating for data loss, and is suitable for professional video transmission over public internet networks.
“What’s new in the SRT protocol?” shared Alexander Gritsuk, Business Development Director for the CIS, Baltics, and Israel regions at Haivision, about the technology improvements. “There is no intermediate server here at all. All connections are established directly between the two parties. Moreover, this solution is affordable for most users.”
Speaking of point-to-point technology, the SRT protocol operates without using intermediate servers, providing a direct connection.
Octopus 12: Versatile system for news production in the cloud and on-premises
Gabriel Janko, Chief Operating Officer and Sales Director at OCTOPUS, showcased OCTOPUS 12 — a news production system that adapts to any workflow and environment.
It optimizes the entire news production process, from news gathering to planning and assignments, creating summaries and digital publishing, to archiving and reporting. Octopus 12 supports both story-oriented and traditional rundown-oriented workflows in the cloud and on-premises.
Cobalt: The new HPF-MAX frame with 20 slots is compatible with all openGear cards
HPF-MAX is an openGear high-density modular frame that has a 2RU form factor and offers 600 watts of clean (available to the user) power in a large-capacity 20-slot format. It supports all openGear compatible cards and rear I/O modules. High power density power supplies (one standard, the second backup — optional) and a well-thought-out cooling/ventilation design allow you to place 10 high-power cards (10 x 60 W = 600 W) or 20 medium-power cards in one frame (20 x 30 W = 600 W). Separate forced air cooling paths are provided for the card and power supply areas.
TVU Networks: From streamlining workflows to unlocking transformational capabilities
TVU Networks presented its broadcasting solutions — Sports, PCR and MCR — which make live production easier, more cost-effective and ready for remote work.
