In the dynamic landscape of FPV drones, the Axisflying AVATA 3.5″ Upgrade Kit takes center stage, offering a transformative experience for users of the DJI Avata FPV drone. Priced at $129.90, this user-installable kit introduces a broader frame, larger 3.5″ propellers, and more potent motors to elevate the drone’s capabilities.
The Axisflying AVATA 3.5″ Upgrade Kit focuses on propeller size, replacing the stock 2.9” propellers with a wider frame capable of accommodating larger 3.5″ propellers. This alteration aims to enhance stability and thrust, providing a more controlled flight experience. To support the larger propellers, the kit recommends upgrading to the C157-2/3750KV motors. The modified drone becomes compatible with various 3.5″ propellers, including HQ DT90MM3, HQ DT90MM4, or other T-mount style options. The package includes Axisflying C35 prop guards for added protection.
Addressing Yaw Tumble and Boosting Payload Capability The quest for more power and stability stems from addressing the Avata’s “yaw tumble” issue during mid-air 180° turns. Axisflying asserts that the upgraded frame kit, combined with stronger motors and larger propellers, minimizes this problem, a claim supported by user feedback.
The need for increased power is also evident in the desire to carry additional payloads, such as a GoPro camera. Despite the Avata’s capable main camera, some users opt to mount a GoPro on the drone’s back for slightly improved footage. However, this practice often leads to decreased agility and stability. The modified Avata, equipped with the Axisflying upgrade kit, promises to provide the necessary power for agile flight even with a back-mounted GoPro.
Extended Flight Time and Installation Considerations According to Axisflying, the upgrade kit extends the DJI Avata drone’s cruising time to about 10’30” (5 minutes for freestyle flying) when carrying a GoPro HERO10. Without the GoPro mounted, cruising time is claimed to be 14’30” (6 minutes for freestyle flying).
Important to note is that the Axisflying AVATA 3.5″ Upgrade Kit is not a ready-to-fly solution. Installation requires specific skills, including soldering, and comes with the trade-off of voiding the DJI warranty. Users are advised to proceed at their own risk, exercising caution and competence in the installation process.
