BBC One HD opens up Freeview/Youview

BBC One HD opens up Freeview/Youview to local regions tkt1957.comThe BBC will begin rolling out regional variations of BBC One in HD to Freeview and Youview viewers in England from tomorrow.

The first phase regions include East Midlands, West Midlands, East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, London, Channel Islands and Yorkshire.

The broadcaster began delivering BBC One in HD to viewers on satellite platforms last year.

It means viewers across England will now be able to watch their local programmes in HD on both platforms.

“Making BBC One HD available on a regional basis is a major undertaking for BBC teams and our suppliers, so we are going to launch regional versions of BBC One HD in two phases,” said Kieran Clifton – director, BBC distribution and business development.

“This allows us to launch the first set of regions as early as possible while we complete the preparatory work to enable us to launch the second set.”

All other England regions are expected to receive the channel in HD by 26th April.

“Once we’ve completed the launch on Freeview and YouView, later in the year we plan to roll-out an update to newer Freeview Play devices that are connected to the internet,” said Clifton.
