BeckTV, a leading company in broadcast media integration, and Ross Video, a renowned provider of live video production solutions, have once again partnered to complete a significant upgrade at the Baltimore Ravens’ M&T Bank Stadium.
The collaboration involved enhancing the content management system (CMS) used for managing graphics on the stadium’s LED scoreboards and vomitory displays. This project represents another milestone in the longstanding partnership between Ross and BeckTV, aimed at improving the game-day experience for Ravens fans.
Initially set up in 2017, the system included a mix of Ross CMS and other third-party workflows. BeckTV and Ross revamped this by implementing a comprehensive Ross gear-based system, ensuring a seamless and reliable operation with built-in redundancy. The upgrade was carried out in two stages, with the first phase completed before the 2022 season and the second just before the 2023 season kicked off.
Jay O’Brien, VP of Broadcasting & Gameday Productions for the Baltimore Ravens, emphasized that this upgrade reinforces their commitment to providing top-tier entertainment for fans. The Ross CMS enables the production team to fully utilize their resources and create content without any technical hindrances.
The core of this system is the XPression Tessera from Ross, a key solution for managing real-time motion graphics on large LED displays. XPression Tessera, known for its precision in graphic distribution and real-time content updates, works alongside Carbonite Mosaic, a tool that adeptly manages large-scale live productions for displays, crucial for the stadium’s massive end zone screens.
The newly installed CMS powers 52 different displays throughout the stadium, including those in the end zones, entry gates, club areas, and concourses. To support video processing for larger displays, the system incorporates nine Ultrix Carbonite switchers, blending routing capabilities with creative production tools.
Additionally, the stadium system features the Piero sports analysis tool, a unique element among NFL teams. The Ravens use Piero not only for live productions but also in post-production and weekly shows. This tool provides advanced stats, data management, and features like virtual branding and sponsorship graphics.
Operators at the stadium can manage all these systems through Ross’ Unified Sports Venue Control Solution, integrating the DashBoard venue control software. This allows them to effortlessly control various aspects of the production, from video and LED content to sound and lighting, all from a single interface.
Kevin Cottam, Vice President of Sports and Live Events at Ross Video, highlighted the seamless integration of their products, making it easier for BeckTV to design systems that enable the Ravens to produce captivating shows with ease. This single-vendor solution updates the stadium with the latest from Ross, streamlining operations and enhancing the fan experience. The combination of Ross’ sports events group support and around-the-clock technical assistance ensures reliability for the Ravens’ production team.
Matt Weiss, Vice President of Business Development at BeckTV, remarked that this project at M&T Bank Stadium is another testament to the successful collaboration between BeckTV and Ross Video. Their joint expertise has led to the delivery of innovative solutions for demanding, high-profile sports projects, ensuring Ravens fans enjoy an unparalleled game-day experience.
