IBC 2023 Highlights: Interview with Benjamin Biesinger, founder of Medievenvent.de.
- What are the main trends of IBC 2023, in your opinion? And was it beneficial for your company in securing contracts?
We are a small company, but the exhibition was fantastic. There are many trends to observe. AI is significant for the entire industry, along with network-based equipment and integration. 5G is also crucial. We are particularly interested in remote and smarter production, so it was intriguing to see what the market will offer in the future.
- Are there any developments in integrating AI into your solutions?
We don’t use AI, but our equipment is based on DTI. Our camera and “Human Crane 4D” utilize DTI equipment, with some built-in parts like following and tracking with the gimbal, or our specialized solution for achieving a zoom around 10 meters using a LIDAR sensor. This is very smart and promises better solutions for the future.
- What are the next steps for your company, and where is it based?
We are located in Baden-Baden, a small town in the south of Germany. Oleg and developer Christoph are situated between Baden-Baden and Frankfurt. This location serves as our base, and we conduct our productions wherever our services are requested. Our next steps involve further penetrating the market with our product. The initial productions underwent extensive testing during the summer. The product concept was conceived last December. Initially, we thought of combining parts from standard broadcast solutions to create our product, but that approach wasn’t suitable. Consequently, we spent two to three months developing and building special parts, involving a process of trial and error. By May, the product was finalized, and last month we conducted thorough tests on the camera quality, material quality, and usability for the camera operator. The camera weighs less than five kilograms, the crane less than five grams, and the solution with the tape tickets, akin to studio cams, is also under five kilograms. Thus, we are under 15 kilograms in total, which is quite light and user-friendly for the operator. Moreover, its compact size offers mobility and can be used anywhere, provided there is a professional wireless solution for the camera.
- What receivers do you use for it?
We utilize the DJI transmission set for the camera. It comes with a small display, similar to a field monitor, which allows you to view essential details like focus and picture temperature – everything you need. For broadcasting, it’s crucial to use the equipment from TV trucks that they bring, including the wireless equipment used for production, ensuring everything is handled seamlessly during production.
- What can you share about your pricing policy?
Our pricing is around 2000 euros for one day of production. This is billed as a two-person production: one person operates the crane, and the other manages the picture. One individual would be from our team, and the second person would be from your production team. Additional costs, such as travel and hotel, are not included in this price level.
