Bitmovin has introduced its latest innovation, the Live Encoder, which is now operational on the Akamai Cloud Computing platform.
This strategic move is set to revolutionize the live streaming industry by significantly reducing total streaming expenses, with savings of up to 90%. The announcement was made ahead of the 2024 NAB Show, scheduled for April 13-17, where the companies plan to demonstrate their joint solution.
Significant Cost Reductions and Performance Enhancements
Available for immediate use, this collaboration between Bitmovin and Akamai aims to decrease data transfer out (DTO) costs effectively. By combining the advanced encoding capabilities of Bitmovin with the extensive reach of Akamai’s cloud infrastructure, customers can expect enhanced streaming quality and cost efficiency.
Dan Lawrence, Akamai’s Vice President of Cloud Computing, highlighted the benefits of deploying Bitmovin’s Live Encoder on their platform. According to Lawrence, this setup not only facilitates high-quality streaming experiences but also offers considerable cost savings, particularly in DTO charges. The initiative is designed to address the streaming industry’s demand for improved service quality, reduced operational costs, and increased content monetization avenues.
User-Friendly Features and Comprehensive API
Bitmovin’s Live Encoder distinguishes itself with an easy-to-navigate user interface, simplifying the live stream setup process. Furthermore, its extensive API grants developers complete oversight over the encoding process, ensuring a customizable and efficient streaming setup.
Integration with Akamai Media Services and Additional Partnerships
The integration extends to Akamai Media Services Live, enhancing live-to-VOD and live clipping features. This is part of the Akamai Connected Cloud, which ensures secure, efficient streaming across its global content delivery network (CDN). Additionally, users of Bitmovin’s Live Encoder on the Akamai platform will gain access to integrated services from various third-party providers. This includes Videon’s LiveEdge contribution encoders, Grass Valley’s Agile Media Processing Platform (AMPP), Zixi’s secure transport and ingest solutions, EZDRM’s multi-DRM and content encryption services, and Yospace’s Server-side Ad Insertion (SSAI), enhancing the overall streaming workflow.
