Bitmovin Stream Lab MCP Server

Bitmovin has announced the launch of the Stream Lab MCP Server, enabling AI agents and large language models (LLMs) to conduct video playback tests and analyze results in real time.

The solution allows automated testing workflows without manual setup or custom integration code.

MCP-Based Integration With Stream Lab

Developed in collaboration with Alpic, the all-in-one MCP cloud platform, the Stream Lab MCP Server enables AI agents to access Bitmovin’s Stream Lab automated testing environment through natural language commands. AI agents can create and manage test configurations, execute tests, and analyze playback results across more than 30 physical devices, including Samsung, LG, and Vizio TVs, web browsers, and game consoles.

Model Context Protocol Framework

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard designed to define structured interaction between AI agents and external systems. Unlike traditional APIs with fixed endpoints, MCP provides a context-aware orchestration layer that supports more advanced AI-driven workflows.

Combined Testing and Observability Capabilities

The Stream Lab MCP Server can operate alongside Bitmovin’s Observability MCP Server. This combination allows AI agents to access real-world quality of experience (QoE) data, prioritize testing on devices with higher playback issues, and assess the impact of configuration changes.

Industry Commentary on Agentic AI Testing

“Bitmovin’s automated video stream testing solution Stream Lab already replaces slow manual testing processes with fully automated testing on physical devices. Now, with the launch of the Stream Lab MCP, we’re giving our customers a powerful new way to control playback testing using simple commands in everyday language without human intervention. With Stream Lab’s MCP Server video services can enable MCP-compatible AI tools such as Claude to interact with Stream Lab tests using natural language to explore test devices, create and run tests, and analyze test reports. This makes agentic AI practical at scale,” said James Varndell, Senior Director of Product Management at Bitmovin.
