At IBC2024, Black Box will present its Emerald Unified KVM-over-IP products, designed to offer secure, flexible, and scalable workflows with minimal IP bandwidth usage.
These devices support integration with H.264/265 video feeds, media controllers, automation systems, and other systems, providing seamless access to physical servers, public and private clouds, with PCoIP Ultra support and collaborative virtual machine (VM) sharing.
Emerald Product Roadmap and New Additions
Visitors will have the opportunity to preview the Emerald product roadmap, including the upcoming Emerald DESKVUE PE receiver, which offers precise 4K/60 video processing. Black Box will also introduce new additions to the Emerald family, uniting KVM and advanced video processing under a single management system. The company will highlight resilient IP-based KVM and AV solutions that enhance user experiences and improve remote system connectivity for production control rooms and both remote and hybrid productions, including live events.
Emerald KVM-Over-IP Platform Features
The Emerald KVM-over-IP platform by Black Box is a scalable universal access system that enables users to connect to physical and virtual machines with IP access over existing networks, WAN, or the internet. The platform’s robust security features, power and connectivity options, and intuitive interfaces for layout configuration and agile switching will be key highlights. Notably, Black Box will demonstrate the platform’s new power redundancy and two-network link redundancy (copper and fiber) capabilities for its traditional KVM DP receivers.
Security and Compliance Features
The Emerald platform’s advanced security and compliance features protect against internal and cyber threats, making it a fail-safe solution with no single point of failure. These features, combined with low-bandwidth consumption, offer new ways to configure studio infrastructure, incorporating remote users, remote productions, and distributed control rooms. The platform supports interoperability between 4K and HD video and includes one-touch control room setups and a high level of automation through Emerald’s APIs.
Boxilla KVM Manager and Installation Enhancements
The Emerald KVM-over-IP platform allows organizations to leverage existing IT equipment, facilitated by the Boxilla KVM Manager’s intuitive dashboard. Black Box will showcase new small-form-factor DisplayPort units that ease installation and the Emerald Remote App, which provides access to up to nine concurrent Emerald connections from a Windows 10/11 laptop.
Emerald DESKVUE and New Enhancements
At IBC2024, Black Box will demonstrate the Emerald DESKVUE, a KVM-over-IP receiver that allows users to access up to 16 different physical or virtual systems and H.264/H.265 streams simultaneously. This receiver displays all systems as individual windows on up to four 4K or curved (5K) monitors, with automatic switching between systems as tasks are performed. Enhancements to Emerald DESKVUE include greater workspace personalization options, faster switching among tiles, and the introduction of an exclusive work mode.
Preview of Emerald DESKVUE PE
For the first time, Black Box will preview the Emerald DESKVUE PE receiver at IBC2024. This new device displays up to 16 simultaneous connections on four displays or a video wall, supporting 4K/60 video channels with low latency and professional-grade video processing.
Emerald AV WALL Integration
Black Box will also introduce the new Emerald AV WALL, which integrates KVM with AV. This solution supports seamless interoperability with Emerald KVM-over-IP systems and non-KVM environments, allowing the display of a single source from an Emerald system on a video wall. The Emerald AV WALL supports a 2×2 video wall with the potential for expansion through additional units.
John Hickey, Senior Director of R&D and KVM Systems at Black Box, emphasized that the Emerald KVM-over-IP product line continues to evolve, delivering advanced functionality and superior responsiveness. The showcase at IBC2024 will include a first look at the new DESKVUE PE, highlighting its ability to extend the display of up to 16 connections across multiple displays while maintaining video quality and low latency. The presentation will also cover various features across the Emerald line that contribute to secure, flexible, and scalable workflows.
