Blackmagic Design has unveiled the latest iteration of its camera software, the Blackmagic Camera 8.6 Public Beta.
This update introduces a host of innovative features aimed at enhancing the flexibility and efficiency of video production workflows. Notably, it includes functionalities for cloud-based operations and the ability to directly upload footage to DaVinci Resolve projects. Additionally, it extends webcam functionality through USB streaming for select Blackmagic camera models.
Enhancements Across Camera Models
The update brings a variety of new features to several Blackmagic camera models, including:
- Pocket Cinema Camera 4K
- Pocket Cinema Camera 6K
- Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2
- Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro
- Cinema Camera 6K
Key improvements include the capability to use the camera as a webcam or UVC device, a new media pool file browser, support for clip deletion, Blackmagic Cloud clip uploads, and direct uploads to DaVinci Resolve projects. Furthermore, the update allows for camera management and updates over ethernet, introduces a REST control API for remote operations, and adds various network and security enhancements like login and secure certificate support, network time protocol, web media manager, file transfer protocol, SMB file sharing, and mobile phone tethering for certain models. Reliability improvements for gyro metadata and USB-C drive detection are also part of this comprehensive update.
System Requirements for Compatibility
To ensure smooth operation, Blackmagic Design has specified the minimum system requirements for both Mac and Windows users. For Mac users, macOS 13.0 Ventura or later, including macOS 14.0 Sonoma, is necessary. Windows users will need to be on Windows 10 64-bit or later, including Windows 11 64-bit, to take advantage of the Blackmagic Camera 8.6 Public Beta’s features.
