Creamfields, the United Kingdom’s largest EDM festival with a capacity of 30,000, used a multi-camera live production workflow from Blackmagic Design to provide live streams and IMAG feeds at the Apex Stage.
Facilities company Video Village delivered the live video solution using a custom-built OB van. The van was centered around an ATEM Constellation 8K live production switcher and equipped with Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 cameras. This setup allowed Video Village to adapt to the specific needs of each artist.
Signal Distribution
Signal distribution was handled by a Blackmagic Videohub 80×80 12G router with 32 fiber inputs. ATEM Talkback Converter 4Ks served as interface points, providing bidirectional video, tally, and intercom over single-mode multicore fiber. The ATEM Constellation 8K was paired with an ATEM 2 M/E Advanced Panel 20 for vision mixing, and an ATEM Camera Control Panel managed camera control and shading.
Camera Placement and Operation
Two URSA Broadcast G2 cameras with URSA Studio Viewfinder G2s were placed at front of house. Video feeds ran over 12G-SDI or duplex single-mode fiber to Blackmagic Mini Converter Optical Fiber 12G modules. Multiple Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2s were positioned around the arena to capture flexible angles where larger cameras were not practical.
Additional Workflow Features
The Blackmagic Camera app running on an iPhone was integrated into the workflow. Using a simple adapter and low-latency wireless video transmission, the iPhone provided additional camera feeds directly into the ATEM Constellation. This solution enabled discreet shots from inside the audience while maintaining synchronization with other cameras.
Results and Capabilities
The system allowed Video Village to deliver multiple clean outputs in different frame rates, meeting the technical requirements for live streaming and IMAG displays. The setup provided flexibility, high image quality, and efficient workflow management.
