BlindSpot Gear has introduced a new compact camera light, named LumiCard, designed especially for mobile filmmaking enthusiasts. This small, yet potent light is as big as a credit card and seamlessly connects to iPhones using the MagSafe magnetic attachment.
Billy Campbell, the Chief Explorer at Blind Spot Gear, emphasizes that the LumiCard is aimed at overcoming the limitations of poor lighting in smartphone photography, offering superior convenience and quality in a format that easily fits in a wallet.
Unlike its predecessor, the Nova light which appeared on Kickstarter in 2014 but struggled with various issues, the LumiCard is set to overcome these challenges. BlindSpot Gear, known for powering high-quality LED lights for Netflix, Amazon, and BBC projects, has meticulously addressed each issue faced by the Nova light.
Crafted in Scotland, the LumiCard is designed to provide 5 watts of 5600K daylight illumination with a high TLCI color accuracy rating of over 95. It features 24 LEDs arranged in six rows, offering up to 500 lumens, significantly brighter than the iPhone’s built-in torch.
The LumiCard offers wireless remote triggering and a manual on/off switch. It includes a USB-C port for charging and connecting to the upcoming iPhone 15. It’s also compatible with Android phones, though some models like Samsung’s need a USB-C connection due to their disabled wireless power-sharing when the camera is in use. The LumiCard can also be used with GoPro and other action cameras.
Currently in its Kickstarter early bird phase, the LumiCard is available for backing at around $50, with a special 3-pack offer at a 35% discount. The package includes the LED light, MagSafe adhesive rings, and a custom USB-C cable. There are additional options like the LumiKit with a diffuser for softer light, a LumiRing for laptop attachment, and the LumiBank, a 5000 mAh battery bank for efficient wireless charging of the LumiCard and other MagSafe-compatible devices.
