Innovative Box-Style Mod Kit Elevates BMPCC 4K & 6K Cameras

A modification kit specifically designed for BMPCC 4K and 6K cameras has recently been introduced to the market by Pod Tech.

This kit offers an innovative approach to enhancing the functionality and usability of these popular camera models.

Pricing and Instructional Support
Priced approximately at $311, the kit includes all necessary components and tools for installation. The company also promises to provide a video tutorial to guide customers through the process, starting from February 2024.

User Feedback on Camera Design
Worldwide, users of BMPCC 4K have expressed appreciation for the image quality and user interface of these cameras, while pointing out difficulties with their ergonomics. Common issues include the battery system, a non-movable screen, and the bulkiness of the body. These issues often lead users to add external accessories like cages and power solutions.

Previous Solutions to Ergonomic Issues
Before this, there have been efforts by other companies to address ergonomic challenges of these cameras. A notable example was a modification kit released in 2020 by another company. The newly introduced kit by Pod Tech now offers a solution specifically for the original BMPCC 4K and 6K models.

Kit Features and Design
Developed after six months of testing and prototyping, the kit’s screen enclosure is made of robust 7075 aluminum. The hinge is designed for a secure attachment to the camera’s internal structure. The design maintains the camera’s compactness for easy transportation, allowing the screen to fold 90 degrees. However, this modification is irreversible and may not fit with all existing camera cages.

Power Management and Compatibility
The kit’s V-mount plate is tailored for micro V-mount batteries, but larger batteries might obstruct some camera controls. While the modification supports battery hot-swapping, it does eliminate the 12V Lemo AC port. Cameras can still be powered indefinitely using USB-C power delivery from compatible V-mount batteries or LP-E6 dummy adapters, although care must be taken when combining these power sources.

DIY Installation Requirements
Similar to earlier modification kits, this product comes as a set of parts and tools, intended for assembly by the camera owner. The installation process, requiring careful handling of the camera’s internal components, does not involve soldering but may need a hair dryer or heat gun for certain steps.
