Bouygues Telecom Implements Broadpeak’s nanoCDN Technology

Bouygues Telecom, a prominent global communications operator in France, is currently implementing Broadpeak’s nanoCDN multicast ABR technology.

This technology is crucial in reducing network load from streaming while ensuring high-quality video experience. It’s available on Bouygues Telecom’s Bbox Smart TV1, and plans are in place to expand its availability to over 30 popular channels by the beginning of 2024.

The rise in streaming video consumption has led to an increased demand for data delivery through operators’ networks. To tackle this challenge, Bouygues Telecom has adopted Broadpeak’s nanoCDN multicast ABR technology, which effectively lowers traffic by up to 90% compared to traditional unicast content, without sacrificing quality.

The technology involves a headend software by Broadpeak that converts source ABR streams into multicast, addressing issues of scalability and quality. At the user end, the nanoCDN agent in home gateways reverts the stream to unicast for delivery to Bbox Smart TV.

Since its introduction in May, the technology has been available to Bbox Smart TV1 subscribers with compatible modems. The deployment has seen a significant 94% reduction in data volume over three months. By early 2024, Broadpeak plans to expand this service to 30 major channels, covering a wide range of genres like news, sports, and entertainment.

Jacques Le Mancq

Jacques Le Mancq, CEO of Broadpeak, expressed satisfaction in continuing their partnership with Bouygues Telecom and delivering a solution that manages video traffic efficiently, especially during live events. The multicast ABR technology is not only already accessible to some customers but will also see a wider deployment across the entire Bbox Smart TV user base.
