Bridge Technologies has recently announced advancements in its Microbitrate analytics, integrated into the VB330, VB220, VB120, and NOMAD monitoring solutions.

This proprietary feature, unique among IP-based broadcast monitoring probes, provides unparalleled insight into network performance. It is essential for broadcasters dedicated to maintaining superior Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) in a competitive market.

Addressing Microbursts in Network Traffic

Traditional network traffic measurement tools often use average metrics over a second to assess performance. However, networks can experience ‘microbursts’, where data packets are transmitted in rapid, oversized bursts. These brief fluctuations can overflow network stack buffers, leading to jitter and dropped packets, even if average metrics suggest normal operation. For instance, a network with an average rate of four gigabits per second might experience microsecond-level peaks up to 25 gigabits.

Precision in Monitoring with Microbitrate Analytics

Bridge Technologies’ Microbitrate feature addresses this issue by analyzing network performance at the microsecond level. This allows engineers to identify the exact moments and causes of microbursts, enabling prompt and effective troubleshooting. The core functionality of Microbitrate analytics has been part of Bridge Technologies’ IP probes for over six years, continuously evolving with each new release to offer more intuitive and detailed visualizations of network traffic peaks and troughs. The feature allows for customized measurement increments, providing a level of detail and user-friendly presentation unmatched by other broadcast probes.

Empowering Users with Enhanced Version 6.3

Simen Frostad, Chairman of Bridge Technologies, stated, “The ability to monitor and analyze microbursts is indispensable for providers dealing with IP transmissions. With our version 6.3 release, we have further improved our Microbitrate analytics, empowering users to maintain the highest standards of distribution quality and ensure seamless delivery and optimal viewer experiences.”
