British company Bright Tangerine has recently given a sneak peek of its new LeftField System, designed specifically for the Sony BURANO camera.
This announcement comes as anticipation builds for the BURANO, which Sony introduced in September 2023 and is expected to ship in Spring 2024. The camera has garnered attention for its impressive specifications, including a full-frame sensor capable of 8.6K recording in X-OCN LT RAW and XAVC H formats, integrated IBIS, built-in ND filters, and the versatility of PL and E mounts.
Details of the LeftField System
The LeftField System by Bright Tangerine, although just teased, is poised to offer a comprehensive solution for BURANO users. The core of the system is a robust, wrap-around camera cage that features numerous 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting points with ARRI-standard locating pins, QD sockets, and what are referred to as MAP mounting points, the specific function of which remains unclear.
Enhancements and Compatibility
Additionally, the cage includes NATO rails on its sides, with a novel removable side plate that can attach to the NATO rail, featuring a new safety button for added convenience. The system’s top plate is designed to be compatible with ARRI BUD (Balance Utility Dovetail) plates, facilitating the quick balancing and removal of top handles. Two types of top handles will be available: a traditional screw-on sliding top handle and a new D-Style master handle.
Innovative Accessories
The setup also introduces the Bright Tangerine AXL EVF mount, designed with a NATO rotating mount and an LCD bracket. Notably, a loupe marked with Bright Tangerine’s logo has been spotted on the standard Sony BURANO LCD screen, marking the company’s first foray into loupe manufacturing.
Baseplate and Shoulder Rig Compatibility
At the camera’s base, the LeftField 3 baseplate is positioned to set 15mm LWS rods at the correct height relative to the lens. Bright Tangerine has indicated compatibility with its KASBAH VCT-14 shoulder rig, though further details on this integration are yet to be disclosed.
In summary, Bright Tangerine’s LeftField System for the Sony BURANO is shaping up to be a significant enhancement for users, providing a range of mounting and rigging options designed to maximize the camera’s potential, despite the full details of the system still being under wraps.
