Broadcasting / Cinema / Pro AV 2024 Kazakhstan provides an insight into the technologies and events taking place at the Kazakhfilm movie studio.
Kazakhfilm, named after Shaken Aimanov, is the largest Kazakh studio for feature, animation, and documentary films, located in Almaty. It’s named after the Soviet Kazakh actor, theater director, and filmmaker Shaken Aimanov.
Founded in 1934, the studio was originally named Alma-Ata Film Chronicle Studio.
The film studio’s assets include: filming pavilions, a production and laboratory building, a tone studio, a film preparation workshop, a film storage facility, a motor transport workshop, and a wind generator based on an aircraft.
Pavilions for filming
The two-pavilion building has two film pavilions, each with an area of 735 m²; the height of the pavilions is 8.2 m, the useful height is 5.2 m. It is possible to shoot without using camera rails. Complete soundproofing for synchronized recording of “pure sound”. Possibility of using lighting equipment on the 4th floor level. Availability of a shooting pit (for a swimming pool, basement, etc.). Possibility of shooting live props (sheep, horses and others), game vehicles
Production and laboratory building
The production and laboratory building has a total area of 9113.2 m², built in 1984. It houses a film processing laboratory and a copying department, where materials and copies of films are developed and printed.
Recording Studio
The studio area is 5967.4 m², built in 1978. The building houses: a music recording studio, a large tone room for recording large musical groups (up to 50 instruments simultaneously) and dubbing phonograms, speech and noise dubbing rooms, a reference hall, equipment rooms for editing phonograms, film screening rooms, film editing rooms, a video editing complex, a Dolby Stereo hall. The large tone hall was built according to the “box within a box” principle with an independent foundation. The hall has variable acoustics. The administration of the Kazakhfilm film studio is also located in the building of the tone studio.
Filming preparation workshop
The studio has a filming preparation workshop, which has areas for the production of various game props, tailoring of costumes, and texture of materials. A large number of various props and costumes are stored in the warehouses of this workshop (more than 25 thousand storage units). The production of decorations is carried out by the department of decorative and technical structures, which consists of a props section, woodworking, plumbing and mechanical sections.
In addition to the main buildings, there are the following facilities:
- The film storage facility with a total area of 413.7 square meters was built in 1989. In this building, in special rooms, the following are stored: sets of source materials for films, a collection of feature and documentary films created by the Kazakhfilm film studio, as well as film chronicles and film magazines.
- Automotive workshop.
- Wind generator based on an aircraft.
In April 2021, Kazakhfilm JSC, named after Sh. Aimanov, in collaboration with Almaty Management University (AlmaU), established a new-format School of Media and Film, named “Media&Film School”. The aim of the new school is to educate professionals who meet the modern demands of the media and film market, contributing to the development of the creative industry in the country. The first students commenced their training in the 2021-2022 academic year.

About the Broadcasting / Cinema / Pro AV Conference
The hybrid exhibitions and conferences of Broadcasting / Cinema / Pro AV were initiated by TKT1957 in the summer of 2022. This event represents a hybrid format conference (both online and offline), conducted across CIS countries and Georgia.
The conference is hybrid, combining physical gatherings of technical specialists and equipment manufacturers in a specific location with the participation of remote speakers and viewers who connect via the internet. To provide a more detailed introduction to the equipment, a Touch@Try Zone is available, featuring live working exhibitions with specialist consultations.
