DHD SX2 Consoles at Cadena Melodía Bogotá Studios

Cadena Melodía de Colombia (Cadena Melodía), a Colombian radio network, has integrated DHD audio SX2 production consoles into the main studios at its headquarters in Bogotá.

The project was carried out by ASPA ANDINA and included the digitisation of the broadcaster’s studio infrastructure.

Network Background

Cadena Melodía was founded in 1967 following the merger of Radio Industrial and Melodia FM Estéreo. During the 1980s, the network expanded with stations in Bucaramanga, Cúcuta, Cartagena de Indias, Barranquilla, Cali and Pasto. The broadcaster also distributes its programming online in HD audio format.

Console Deployment and Studio Configuration

The installation includes DHD SX2 control surfaces interconnected via Cat6 Ethernet. The consoles support audio routing from multiple inputs to assigned outputs, including recording systems, booth monitoring, codec returns and hybrid outputs. Routing control is managed through a 10-inch multitouch display integrated into each SX2 surface.

“ This upgrade of Cadena Melodía’s studios in the visually striking Glass Building on Bogotá’s 45th Street sets a benchmark as the first station in Colombia to have entrusted its digitisation process to DHD’s SX2 control surface,” said Juan Pablo León, ASPA ANDINA’s Technical Director, Commercial.

Audio Routing and Mixing Functions

Each SX2 surface features motorised faders with multilayer functionality, enabling a virtual microphone mixer on a secondary layer. This configuration supports automatic mixing and reduces space requirements in the broadcast master. Microphones are assigned to one of 16 programme buses and managed using DHD’s Automix tool.

Connectivity and Communication Systems

The system supports a wide range of audio inputs and outputs across multiple formats. Headphone connections with independent level control were installed to provide customised return audio for each presenter, including talkback from the master control room.

A telephone hybrid, remotely controlled from the DHD console, supports POTS/PSTN lines, VoIP telephony, Bluetooth-connected smartphones and GSM network integration, enabling listener interaction and feedback.

“In summary, we appreciate the trust of the entire management, technical and administrative team of Cadena Melodía de Colombia for allowing us to continue being part of the technological renewal of radio in the country,” León added.
