Canon Europe announced today that it will provide free firmware updates for its 4K remote cameras and remote camera controllers, aiming to enhance functionality and performance, including auto-tracking.
These updates will be available starting in mid-July 2024. The upgrades will also include updated versions of various applications, such as the ‘Auto Tracking Application RA-AT001,’ initially released in April 2023.
Expanding Remote Camera Capabilities
Canon has consistently expanded its product line-up of remote camera systems by providing application software that adds essential functions tailored to camera system usage, including 4K remote cameras and specialized controllers. By upgrading firmware and applications, Canon seeks to improve workflow in video production projects and enhance visual communication in web conferences and lecture broadcasts.
Improved Auto-Tracking Features
The updated ‘Auto Tracking Application RA-AT001’ will now maintain tracking even when subjects intersect with other individuals, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted tracking. Performance enhancements will allow for more natural and fluid movement tracking, capturing the beginning and end of a subject’s movements seamlessly. Advanced auto-tracking settings can now be adjusted via the controller, eliminating the need for a PC. Canon will also offer the basic functions of the ‘Auto Tracking Application RA-AT001’ free of charge, broadening access to these improvements.
Enhanced Video Output and Connectivity
The firmware update will enhance the video output framerate during USB connections. Remote cameras CR-N300 and CR-N100, which comply with the USB Video Class standard, can now be connected to a PC via cable for use in web conferences. The output framerate will increase from the original FHD12.5fps to a maximum of FHD30fps. Additionally, the output format will now include YUV format alongside Motion JPEG, facilitating post-shoot image processing. This compatibility with multiple formats will make the remote cameras more versatile for various web conference applications.
Upgraded Controller Functionality
The functionality of the dedicated controller will also be enhanced. The touch panel on the remote camera controller RC-IP1000 will now display thumbnail images of presets and trace functions registered on the camera, reducing operational mistakes and enabling intuitive control. The touch panel, capable of displaying up to nine cameras simultaneously, can output these images to an external monitor via SDI and HDMI. This firmware update for the controller will improve on-site operations by allowing users to control cameras while monitoring multiple views on a large screen.
