Revolutionizing cinema lenses, Canon introduces native RF mounts for seamless camera communication.

Ahead of IBC 2023, Canon has announced the introduction of native RF mounts to their cinema lenses, alongside the existing EF and PL options. The first to feature these mounts will be the seven CN-R prime lenses. This integration ensures seamless communication between the RF lenses and cameras, offering the same features as the CN-E EF lenses.

Canon’s transition to the native RF-mounts with their original CN-E EF-mount cine primes results in the new CN-R series. While the focal lengths and T-stops remain consistent, the native RF mount eliminates the need for lens adapters, ensuring direct communication between the RF lenses and cameras.

The CN-R Lineup:

The seven CN-R cine prime lenses with native RF-mount include:

  • CN-R 14mm T3.1
  • CN-R 20mm T1.5
  • CN-R 24mm T1.5
  • CN-R 35mm T1.5
  • CN-R 50mm T1.3
  • CN-R 85mm T1.3
  • CN-R 135mm T2.2

RF-Mount Features:

When attached to RF camera bodies, these lenses enable:

  • Magnification
  • Chromatic aberration correction
  • Peripheral light correction
  • Dual-pixel focus guides
  • New lens distortion correction

Canon is set to expand their cinema lens offerings with RF-mount options, enhancing native communication between their professional cine lenses and RF-mount cameras, such as the EOS C70 and EOS R5 C. These lenses are designed for high optical performance, compatible with 4K and 8K cameras, ensuring uniform color consistency across the range.

Availability and Pricing:

The CN-R cine prime lenses with RF-mount will roll out in phases. Starting late January 2024, the 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm focal lengths will be available. The 14mm will follow in late February 2024, the 20mm in late March 2024, and finally, the 135mm in late April 2024. Prices will range between $3950 and $4220, based on the focal length.
