Canon has announced a swathe of new technology aimed at broadcast and filmmaking.
The new products include the CN8x15 IAS S E1/P1, Canon’s latest Cine-Servo lens for a broad range of productions, the EU-V3 – a modular expansion unit for the EOS C500 Mark II and EOS C300 Mark III, a Cinema EOS firmware update, and the DP-V2730, a 27-inch 4K professional reference display.
Canon CN8x15The new lens supports Super 35mm cameras, which Canon says makes it ideal for a range of cinema and broadcast productions. It includes a focal range from 15mm to 120mm, and can further extend up to 180mm via the built-in 1.5x extender whilst offering full frame sensor coverage.
It can be used on HDR, 4K and 8K projects and is also the first Cine-Servo lens to enable ZEISS eXtended Data (XD) communication when using the PL Mount.
Canon has also announced four professional camcorders – the XA65, XA60, XA75 and XA70 – alongside the prosumer LEGRIA HF G70 camcorder. The new camcorders are suited to a wide range of uses, said the company, including documentary.
Canon XA65All of the cameras are capable of capturing 4K quality content and HD UVC Streaming via USB-C, with advanced autofocus and face detection functionality. All of them enable MP4 recording, while the four professional camcorders feature XF-AVC recording to support broadcast applications, added the company.
Key features of the XA75 and XA70 include 1 inch Type CMOS Sensor and DIGIC DV6 Processor for 4K UHD recording, DUAL Pixel CMOS AF and face tracking, and Dual XLR audio input with 4ch audio recording.
The XA65 and XA60 both feature 1/2.3 inch Type CMOS Sensor and DIGIC DV6 Processor for 4K UHD recording, 20x optical zoom with 40x digital zoom and InfraRed Shooting Support.
The LEGRIA HF G70 includes a 4K UHD 1/2.3-type CMOS sensor, USB-C Output for Streaming and oversampled HD processing. The company has also debuted the CR-N700 – a 4K60P 4:2:2 10 bit PTZ camera with 12G-SDI connectivity, designed for professional broadcast, studios, and live event productions. It incorporates the intelligent AF from popular professional video cameras such as the EOS C70 and XF605, for precision focus across the entire pan, tilt and zoom range.
Key features of the PTZ camera include 1.0 Type CMOS sensor with DIGIC DV7 Processor achieves 4K60P 4:2:2 10-bit, multiple protocols including NDI|HX, SRT, FreeD, RTMP(S), RTP, RTSP, Standard communication protocol and Canon XC, and enhanced connectivity with 12G-SDI output.
Price and availability
The new Canon 15-120mm cine lens is priced at $30,999, while the DP-V2730 reference display is $18,999. Not exactly cheap, but if you need exceptional quality and performance, these new releases might be worth a very close look.
The Canon EU-V3 expansion module is soon for $2,999. In addition, the firmware updates for the EOS C500 Mark II and EOS C300 Mark III are available now for free.
