The Caton NDI Gateway is a vital contribution to the NDI ecosystem, allowing users to easily and intuitively move and share high resolution files far beyond their local network.
This powerful connectivity software platform uses unique algorithms and AI-enhanced forward error correction to ensure high bandwidth efficiency and secure delivery. Based on the Caton Transport Protocols (CTP) and the CatonNet Video Platform (CVP), the Caton NDI Gateway eliminates the dependency on Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) by providing a practical means to transmit NDI output data over conventional Internet connections.
The Caton NDI Gateway provides bidirectional operation so a single user can both send and receive high quality NDI signals. The simple user interface makes it easy to transmit from NDI sources or auto-detect NDI output sources, and set transmit and receive parameters for a CTP transport stream at up to 50 Mbps.
To illustrate the possibilities, Caton recently demonstrated a Caton NDI gateway in a typical remote production configuration with a BirdDog P400 PTZ camera.
The camera was placed in Caton’s Hong Kong office and connected to a Mac Mini M1 with the Caton NDI Gateway software installed. The NDI stream was then streamed to the Caton CVP Point of Presence (PoP) in Hong Kong, and from there to the Singapore Point of Presence (PoP) and onward to the Caton office in Singapore, where another Mac decoded the stream and outputted the NDI for local viewing.
Using CVP for NDI streaming provides more flexibility and scalability to the needs of carriers, whether cloud, on-premises, hybrid, or CatonNet-as-a-Service.
“The P400 is designed for broadcast and professional video applications, delivering all the quality and functionality you need in a compact form factor,” said Eamon Drew, director of marketing for BirdDog. “With full NDI output up to 4k resolution, we view the Caton NDI Gateway and video streaming platforms as the ideal solution to maintain quality and ensure low-latency, secure distribution.”
“NDI is a very popular video networking solution, even up to 4k Ultra HD, like the amazing BirdDog P400,” said Gerald Wong, Senior Vice President of Global Operations at Caton Technology. “Caton NDI Gateway fully realizes the goal of free video transmission outside the local network, effectively reducing the delay in NDI transmission. This is exactly the solution NDI users need to create efficient and cost-effective NDI workflows for remote operations.”
Caton NDI Gateway is available now, with license usage, for MacOS and can be downloaded from the Caton website.
