Qvest, a global leader in media consulting and technology services, has partnered with Nine Network, Australia’s largest media company, to complete the upgrade of the Channel 9 station in Melbourne.
This project follows the successful upgrade of Nine Network’s Sydney headquarters. The focus of the Melbourne station renewal included the news, sports, and post-production facilities, with a complete overhaul of the station’s playout infrastructure.
Aligned Workflows and Disaster Recovery Capabilities
One of the main goals of this collaboration was to align the workflows and technologies between Nine Network’s two largest sites—Sydney and Melbourne. This alignment allows Melbourne to serve as a Disaster Recovery facility, enabling seamless operations to switch between the two locations. By unifying tools, workflows, and processes, the network has increased its operational efficiency and security.
Agile Production Environment for Major Events
The newly implemented technologies provide Nine Network with an agile production environment capable of quickly responding to current events and producing content for both linear and digital platforms. The upgrade was designed with a focus on ensuring robust and secure solutions, especially for major broadcasting events such as the Australian Open and the Olympic Games, for which Nine Network holds broadcasting rights.
Vendor Support and Ongoing Partnership
Qvest worked with Avid, EVS, and Woody as vendor partners to support the technology upgrades. The collaboration between Qvest and Nine Network continues to focus on improving broadcast capabilities across both Melbourne and Sydney sites, ensuring efficient production processes and reliable support for future operations.
Statements from Key Representatives
Geoff Sparke, Director of Broadcast Operations at Nine Network, expressed satisfaction with the partnership, emphasizing that Qvest handled the project’s planning, procurement, commissioning, and support effectively.
Thomas Grandoch, Principal at Qvest ANZ, noted the importance of modern technology and efficient processes for media companies, confirming Qvest’s commitment to continuing their work with Nine Network.
