Kunstmin Theater in Dordrecht has modernized its communication setup by installing Clear-Com’s Arcadia Central Station System.
The update replaced the theater’s old intercom system, enabling efficient communication across its two locations, Schouwburg and Energiehuis, through a unified platform.
Need for an Upgrade
Bart Meester, head technician at Kunstmin, explained that they had previously used two different systems: an early Clear-Com digital system, the FreeSpeak wireless system, and an analog ASL partyline system. After years of service, they needed a modern solution to streamline communication between their venues.
Choosing Clear-Com’s Arcadia System
Following research and product demonstrations, Kunstmin selected the Clear-Com Arcadia system due to its ability to integrate wired and wireless communications in one platform. According to Meester, the sound quality and the wireless communication across the venues made Arcadia a practical choice.
Connecting Two Locations
The theater’s two sites—Schouwburg and Energiehuis—are now connected by fiber optic cables, allowing them to share the same intercom system. The system enables independent room operation or linking the spaces into one large unit, all controlled within Arcadia. The FreeSpeak II beltpacks allow staff to move freely between the locations without losing communication.
Ease of Use for Visitors
The new system is intuitive, making it easier for visiting artists and technicians to use without additional training. Meester noted that this was not possible with their previous setup.
Installation and Future Expansion
WG Theatertechniek, in partnership with Ampco Flashlight Sales, carried out the installation of the Arcadia system. Ramon van der Zalm from WG Theatertechniek acknowledged the theater’s proactive approach to understanding the system’s full capabilities, allowing for future expansion if needed.
Frans van Houten, product specialist at Ampco Flashlight Sales, emphasized the success of the collaboration between Schouwburg Kunstmin, WG Theatertechniek, and Clear-Com in completing the upgrade.
Future-Proof Communication
Kunstmin Theater’s investment in Clear-Com technology has significantly improved daily operations and ensured the theater’s communication infrastructure is prepared for future needs.
