Clear-Com: Technological Upgrade at David H. Koch Theater

0

In collaboration with Clear-Com, the theater has enhanced its communication efficiency by upgrading its wireless intercom system and installing new communication panels.

Historical Background and Renovations

Originally constructed in 1964 as the New York State Theater and designed by architect Philip Johnson, the theater has been integral to New York’s cultural scene. It is the home of the New York City Ballet and has hosted numerous theatrical performances, including Broadway musical revivals. In 2008, the theater was renamed following a $100 million donation from philanthropist David H. Koch, funding extensive renovations that included the installation of the Clear-Com Eclipse® HX digital matrix system.

2024 System Upgrade

In 2024, Clear-Com executed a critical upgrade to the theater’s communication system, essential for the New York City Ballet and other touring companies. This upgrade involved installing new Eclipse HX digital matrix intercom panels, FreeSpeak II wireless intercom transceivers, and base stations with the latest firmware. The components are interconnected through a robust IP-based network, significantly enhancing the theater’s communication capabilities.

Enhanced Communication Infrastructure

The Eclipse HX digital matrix system serves as the central hub, connecting various wired and wireless devices throughout the theater. The FreeSpeak II transceivers provide reliable wireless coverage, ensuring uninterrupted communication for crew members. During the 2024 Tony Awards, the LQ Series IP Interfaces were crucial, linking the production’s communication system with the theater’s infrastructure. This integration allowed the crew to use the in-house IP network, streamlining the operation by eliminating the need for extensive cabling.

Future Prospects

Donald Wood, Audio Engineer at the David H. Koch Theater, commented, “We are delighted to support the David H. Koch Theater’s journey towards technological excellence. The upgraded communication system not only meets current demands but also positions the theater for sustained future success.”

The recent technological enhancements ensure that the David H. Koch Theater remains at the forefront of communication efficiency, catering to the needs of its performers and production teams.
