COLBOR, a sister company of SYNCO, has recently launched the CL60 – a 65W bi-color COB LED fixture.
It offers an adjustable CCT range (2,700-6,500K), up to 20,240 lux at 1 meter, Bowens mount, built-in lighting effects, support for USB-C Power Delivery, and a scalable design.
While large-scale productions are slowly trying to replace old-fashioned HMI fixtures with powerful LED spotlights, the LED market is also assisting in a mushrooming of smaller, more compact COB LED models that are particularly suitable for content creators.
Just a few months ago, SIRUI took their first big steps into the lighting world with the release of the SIRUI C60B. Now, another Chinese manufacturer – COLBOR – is following their lead. Their new 65W COB LED bi-color fixture, called CL60, clearly aims to be a direct competitor for popular lights such as the Aputure amaran 60x and NANLITE Forza 60B. Let’s take a closer look at it!
The compact COLBOR CL60 joins the company’s CL Series of COB LED spotlights, which already includes a daylight-balanced 65W model – the CL60M. The color temperature of this new bi-color version is adjustable between 2,700 and 6,500K, while the manufacturer claims CRI and TLCI ratings of 97+.
The light has a native beam angle of 120°, and comes with the included PowerReflector. According to the specs sheet, when paired with the reflector and set to 6,500K, this light source can output up to 20,240 lux at a distance of 1 meter. Not as bright as the amaran 60x.
The light body comes with a Bowens mount adapter that grants compatibility with a vast range of light modifiers. Moreover, like most spotlights these days, the CL60 comes packed with a set of 10 integrated lighting effects (Fire, CCT Chase, Pulsing, TV, Explosion, Faulty Bulb, Welding, Strobe, Lightning, and SOS).
Power and control
At first glance, the COLBOR CL60 looks like the umpteenth affordable COB LED light. However, there are a few design features that make it different from other existing fixtures, starting from its power options.
Indeed, along with DC power, the light supports USB-C Power Delivery (PD3.0, 20V, 4A). This provides an enormous amount of flexibility and portability in the field since a simple power bank is enough to fire up the spotlight. Of course, V-mount or Gold mount batteries with USB outputs can also be used.
For adjusting settings, users can choose between the onboard controls on the back of the light head – paired with a 2” LED status display – or the COLBOR Studio app, which is compatible with both iOS and Android smart devices.
Modular design
The new COLBOR CL60 features aerospace-grade aluminum construction, which is both featherlight and pocket-sized. The lamp head only weighs 550g/19.4oz and measures 140x80x90mm/5.5×3.1×3.5” in size.
Another selling point of the COLBOR CL60 stands in its modular design. Indeed, up to 10 CL60 units can be arranged into a large lighting array, thus resulting in a powerful 650W light source. Moreover, each unit in the matrix can simultaneously control all the others, so that the matrix effectively acts as a single large fixture.
