AJA Video Systems recently announced a significant achievement for their ColorBox product. It has become the first color management and color conversion tool to receive certification for compatibility with RED cinema cameras.
ColorBox’s Impact in Production
Since its introduction last fall, ColorBox has become an essential tool in different production settings. Particularly notable is its certification for compatibility with a broad spectrum of RED cameras, greatly benefiting professionals in both live and scripted television. ColorBox enables real-time capture and color correction using RED’s look up tables (LUTs) through the AJA Color Pipeline. Alternatively, it supports RED Log3G10 processing with an optional Colorfront license. The integration is further enhanced by third-party hardware control panels like Skaarhoj or Cyanview, which offer tactile controls similar to those found in broadcast cameras. For cinema production, the RED-CERTIFICATION of ColorBox guarantees a smooth operation of RED cameras in conjunction with ColorBox for effective HDR/SDR grading.
Comments from AJA President
Nick Rashby, President of AJA, expressed enthusiasm about ColorBox being the first RED-CERTIFIED product for video processing. He highlighted the certification as a significant endorsement for color workflows based on RED technology. Rashby acknowledged the productive collaboration with the RED team and anticipated future joint endeavors.
Upcoming Demonstrations
AJA plans to showcase the integrated workflows of RED and ColorBox, among other technologies, at the Band Pro One World Open House. This event is scheduled for December 7, 2023, from 1-8pm in Burbank, CA.
