Czech Television (Czech TV), the public broadcaster of the Czech Republic, has modernised its video streaming workflow in collaboration with Harmonic.
The project includes the adoption of Harmonic’s software-based XOS Advanced Media Processor and the transition of transcoding operations to an in-house environment.
In-House Media Processing Strategy
The move enables Czech TV to manage its media processing internally and maintain direct control over streaming quality and operational efficiency across its digital platforms.

“After years of relying on outsourced solutions, we recognized the need to bring media processing in-house. Harmonic’s XOS media processor unlocks AI-powered content-aware encoding to deliver superior-quality video streaming on a wide range of devices,” said Jan Dvořák, head of IT, digital services at Czech TV.
XOS Media Processor Capabilities
Harmonic’s XOS Advanced Media Processor is built on a cloud-native architecture and integrates AI-powered EyeQ encoding technology. The system supports mobile, web application and HbbTV delivery. It enables Czech TV to create multiple video profiles, apply subtitles and insert logos for pop-up channels.
The platform also provides advanced audio mixing features, including descriptive audio services designed to support impaired audiences and inclusive viewing experiences.
Long-Term Technology Direction
“As a long-standing Harmonic customer, Czech TV continues to demonstrate forward-thinking leadership by embracing innovation and leveraging software efficiencies,” said Tony Berthaud, senior vice president, sales, APAC and EMEA at Harmonic.

Harmonic’s local partner Smart Informatics contributed to system deployment and integration.
