Blackmagic Design has recently updated their DaVinci Resolve video editing software to version 18.6.3, introducing several new features and improvements.
The update, which follows closely after the previous release in October, brings enhanced media syncing capabilities, particularly for cloud-based projects. Users can now effortlessly sync media from networked folders with their Blackmagic Cloud Store, streamlining their workflow.
The update introduces a feature to prevent the computer from entering sleep mode during file uploads or proxy generation, ensuring uninterrupted processing. Additionally, a new configuration dialog has been added for importing projects into a cloud project library, allowing for precise setting of media and proxy storage locations.
DaVinci Resolve 18.6.3 also makes the delivery process faster by enabling the selection of proxy media over original camera files for web presets, which speeds up the delivery process while reducing processing requirements.
A significant addition to this version is the support for decoding 4:2:2 HEIF and HIF clips, enhancing the use of high-quality footage captured on smartphones.
The update also focuses on overall stability and performance improvements. These include enhanced popup window management and control for Macs with Sonoma 14.1, improved handling of transitions and ripple edits in large timelines, and other general enhancements.
Accompanying this release, Blackmagic offers ‘The Beginner’s Guide to DaVinci Resolve 18.5’, a comprehensive tutorial by Blackmagic Certified Trainer Ollie Kenchington. This guide is designed for those new to the software, covering editing, compositing, color correction, and audio mixing.
The full list of features and improvements, as detailed on Blackmagic Design’s website, encompasses a wide range of enhancements, from cloud project management and audio normalization during renders to improved Dolby Vision export options, better collaboration tools, and various fixes addressing issues from image quality to audio sync. The update is aimed at further refining the user experience and expanding the software’s capabilities, maintaining DaVinci Resolve’s position as a leading tool in the video editing landscape.
