Dejero’s connectivity technology was crucial for Quality, the production company responsible for broadcasting the inaugural Gulf Youth Games in April.
The event saw 3,500 young athletes competing across various venues in the UAE over two weeks.
Deployment Across Multiple Venues
Quality deployed four production crews daily to sports venues in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Fujairah. Dejero EnGo mobile video transmitters ensured uninterrupted connectivity, transporting live feeds from up to 24 cameras to Rights Holding Broadcasters (RHBs) such as DubaiTV, Oman Sports, SSC, UAE Olympic Committee, and Bahrain TV.
Handling Multiple Events Simultaneously
Each venue featured three or four sports arenas with multiple events occurring simultaneously, including athletics, football, swimming, judo, tennis, fencing, volleyball, and chess. EnGo transmitters utilized fiber for primary connectivity and cellular connectivity for backup, achieving upload speeds between 5 and 10 Mbps for up to eight hours.
Flexible Remote Production Workflow
Pablo Reyes, Chief Production Officer at Quality, emphasized the benefits of Dejero’s connectivity. “The flexible remote production workflow allows our cameras to move freely between venues without being tethered to OB vans. The EnGo transmitters are easy to set up and operate, reducing the pressure and costs associated with live sports broadcasting.”
Coverage of Long-Distance Events
Quality’s field crews also covered long-distance events such as cycling, triathlon, and sailing. EnGo transmitters, using bonded cellular connections, sent high-quality live feeds with glass-to-glass latency as low as 0.5 seconds. Each roaming EnGo unit combined signals from three different cellular network carriers to ensure reliable connectivity.
Smart Blending Technology
Dejero EnGo transmitters are powered by Smart Blending Technology™, which dynamically manages bandwidth, packet loss, and latency differences in real-time, combining multiple IP connections simultaneously.
Master Control Room Operations
At Quality’s Master Control Room (MCR) in Madrid, Spain, Dejero WayPoint receivers decoded and outputted video signals from the EnGo transmitters. Quality’s team of producers, directors, graphics operators, and technicians packaged the content for distribution to RHBs. Additionally, other RHBs received video signals directly using their own WayPoint devices. A microphone connected to a WayPoint receiver allowed the director to communicate with camera operators using the EnGo IFB voice communication feature.
Quality relied on Dejero’s advanced connectivity solutions to broadcast the Gulf Youth Games seamlessly, showcasing the flexibility and reliability of Dejero’s EnGo mobile video transmitters and WayPoint receivers.
